Curacao, March 14, 2022 – LionsDive Beach Resort has joined forces with the Amsterdam company Join the Pipe. Join the Pipe makes reusable (water) bottles from sugar cane, a plastic without CO2 emissions. With these stylish, BPA-free and dishwasher-safe bottles and by installing water taps, Join the Pipe wants to reduce the harmful waste of PET bottles. With the proceeds from the bottles, Join the Pipe funds drinking water projects in developing countries. Join the Pipe strives for a world without plastic waste with clean drinking water for everyone.
The tap water of Curaçao is distilled seawater of high quality. The water is soft, contains no chlorine and almost no calcium. This high quality drinking water is unique for an island, but LionsDive noticed that its guests were often unaware of the excellent quality of Curaçao drinking water and still regularly purchased PET bottled water. Since opening in 1989, LionsDive has strived for the highest possible standards in sustainable entrepreneurship. Reducing (plastic) waste is therefore an important priority and Join the Pipe bottles fit perfectly into this mission.
Join the Pipe has designed a special Curaçao bottle showing the island’s trading quay. LionsDive will place these bottles filled with local water in the refrigerators of all hotel rooms. Each guest will receive their own bottle; a functional and beautiful souvenir! Furthermore, the resort will provide its guests with detailed information about Curaçao’s drinking water. In the future, the resort will create more water points throughout the resort so that guests can constantly refill their bottles. ‘Refill, reduce, reuse’ – Join the Pipe.
