Willemstad, May 20, 2024 – LionsDive Beach Resort celebrates its rich history and continuous development as one of the most beloved and renowned resorts on the island. Since its establishment in 1989, the resort has undergone significant transformation, positioning itself as a leader in sustainable tourism, luxury relaxation, and hospitality.
The initiative emerged during the economic crisis of the 1980s, led by Koki van Eps of the Curaçao Lions Club, with the aim of creating more employment opportunities and stimulating the economy. Thanks to the support of Lions Club members, MCB bank, and the community, construction began in 1986.
Starting with 72 rooms, LionsDive primarily targeted divers due to its beachfront location and proximity to the reef. To meet the growing demand for high-quality accommodation, the resort embarked on expansions and renovations in the 1990s, including new rooms, suites, and the impressive 50-meter sports pool in 2008. The introduction of the 50-meter sports pool in 2008 underscored the resort’s commitment to sports and well-being, attracting both professional athletes and recreational swimmers.
Sustainability and environmental protection are central to LionsDive, with initiatives such as solar energy, water conservation, and a recycling program. An essential value of LionsDive is the integration and promotion of the local Curaçaoan culture. The resort collaborates closely with local artists and musicians to create an authentic Curaçaoan experience for guests. Regular cultural events and markets provide guests with the opportunity to experience the island’s rich traditions.
As LionsDive Beach Resort celebrates its 35th anniversary, it remains committed to innovation and improvement. The completion of 28 additional rooms and suites is scheduled for September. Gym and spa facilities will also be enhanced. Additionally, the focus remains on continuing sustainable initiatives to preserve Curaçao’s natural beauty for future generations.
